Transformer Design

Practical transformer design requires knowledge of electrical principles and materials.
Small transformers, under 10 kVA, may be designed using handbook data and pencil-and-paper calculations, but larger or mass-produced units are often designed with extensive computer aided modeling (CAM).
In an electrical power transformer, there are primary, secondary and may be tertiary windings. The performance of a transformer mainly depends upon the flux linkages between these windings. This event requires participants to build a step-down transformer.

Rules & REGULATIONS

1. The participants have to design of 50 VA, 230/12V shell type step-down transformer.

2. The primary and secondary winding will be provided.

3. The transformer should have medium insulation.

4. Winding should have primary efficiency of 90% and secondary efficiency of 100%.

5. No of primary and secondary turns have to be calculated with consideration of stacking factor, 0.9 and winding factor, 0.9.

6. Winding kit will be provided with appropriate counter.

7. The transformer must be prepared within a given time i.e 2 hr.

8. Maximum of 3 participants can be in one group.

9. Cell phones are strictly prohibited.

10. All materials will be provided by the organiser.

11. Components are to be handeled with care and are not be damaged.

12. The Participants will be decided on "first come first serve" basis of registration, so kindly register as soon as possible.
